Landscape photography is, for me, like a puzzle, trying to organize and simplify elements. Doing so keeps me present in the moment, watching light sculpt a scene before me. It’s about making decisions to strip away the irrelevant, and choosing when the light is concealing or revealing features.
In making my work, I look to photographers such Ansel Adams, Elliot Porter, and John Sexton for their awe inspiring grandeur and simplicity, and Michael Kenna whose minimalism reverberates deeply with me. But I work primary in color, and that influence traces to growing up reading Nation Geographic, and being captivated by photographers such as Frans Lanting. I hope my work makes viewers feel the simple beauty found around us all.
