Whether it be California, Iceland, England, Svalbard or countless other locations, I am convinced that Beauty is everywhere. I strongly feel it is the great constant in this world. My love for Landscape Photography has taken me to some extraordinary places. Searching for photos is a treat for the senses.Waiting out a storm, the smell of wet woodlands hours before dawn, sulphur from Icelandic fumerals, or even the cold ocean sea spray in the high Arctic, all of it feeds me on many levels. My challenge is to capture the feeling that the scene gave me when I first stumbled onto it. Often, I will hike to a place and not take a single image. I will just sit and watch the landscape. Other times, if I am lucky, the scene will start to ‘sing’ to me. Luckier still and the ‘Muses’ will grace me with their presence and lead me to something that I did not expect and send me in a whole different direction. That’s what I love the best!
Coming from a background in realist oil painting, I tend to look for a Painterlycomposition. I also try to avoid the expected ‘Iconic’ images of an area although they occasionally have their place. In this collection I present images from Iceland, Svalbard, England, Norway as well as many from our own back yard of Sonoma County. I share with you moments of beauty that have sung to me.
